Expert Workshop on Impact Assessment

IMO held remotely the Expert Workshop on Impact Assessment on 8 March and 9 March 2022, aiming to ensure consistent improvement of the comprehensive assessment of impacts by the ship GHG reduction short-term measures on the world fleet and countries. In the Workshop, the DPR Korea was represented by officials from the Maritime Administration of the DPR Korea and the Korea Marine Environment Protection Center.

Last year, IMO adopted GHG reduction short-term measures. DNV and UNCTAD assessed the impacts of these measures on the world fleet and countries and submitted reports thereof to IMO. At the same time Starcrest carried out stakeholders analysis and reported the related outcomes to IMO. In this context, the Workshop gave in-depth consideration to these reports. The attention of the participants was focused on improvement of the models and procedures available in the assessment, trade-off between transparency and confidentiality of the data, more economic indices to be used, introduction of lifecycle assessment, etc.
