For Clean Marine Environment

DPR Korea, a maritime country, is consistent in its efforts to protect marine environment, highlighting it as an important matter for the prosperity of the country and the well-being of the people.

In this regard, the Marine Environmental Protection Center specializing in response to ship-source pollution was set up and undertakes to promptly coordinate and combat ship-source pollution and restore pollution damage thus contributing to the protection of the marine environment.

Based on its ideal, “clean environment & prompt response”, the center regularly conducts drills and exercises to respond to oil pollution pursuant to the National Ship Oil Pollution Contingency Plan and commits itself to promptly responding to oil pollution incidents occurring in the territorial waters, rivers and lakes.

It successfully coordinated several operations to promptly respond to oil pollution incidents occurring in the territorial waters and thus minimized the environmental damage.

It also gives impetus to the research and development of the equipment for treatment of ship pollutants.

It makes an analysis of whether the materials either discharged overboard or used onboard ships entering or departing the waters and ports of the country comply with the relevant standards while conducting assessment and monitoring of environmental impact made by ships.

At the same time, it is bolstering cooperation with international organizations and non-governmental organizations involved in marine environmental protection.
